Dr. Victor Da Costa obtained his undergraduate degree from the University
of California, Berkeley, then completed his medical degree at the University
of California, Irvine. He did his otolaryngology residency at Duke University
and a pediatric fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. He
previously served as faculty at the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
Currently, Victor is a physician at the ENT Center of PA. Victor is interested
in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the head and neck in patients
of all ages. He is particularly interested in the care of pediatric patients
including hearing disorders and allergic disease.
He volunteers at the Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic and enjoys collaborating
with other professionals in the complicated care of a child. Victor enjoys
music, specifically jazz, and plays the saxophone. He enjoys travel and
exploring new places and cuisine with his wife and two boys.
Course Title
Otolaryngic care of obstructive sleep apnea in children and adults
- Course Description
In two parts, we will discuss the diagnosis and treatment of obstructive sleep apnea in children and
adults. Pediatric OSA will be reviewed including the relevant anatomy and common causes. We will
discuss the behavioral and physiologic effects of OSA on the child. There will also be a review of the
guidelines of how to diagnose and treat sleep apnea in children. Adult sleep apnea is a different disease
and will be contrasted with pediatric sleep apnea. Treatment modalities of adult sleep apnea will be
reviewed as well as surgical therapies. Barriers to care and opportunities for collaboration will also be
discussed.

1. Know the differences between adult and pediatric sleep apnea.
2. Understand the effectiveness of surgical care in the treatment of pediatric OSA
3. Be able to describe some of the challenges and barriers in the treatment of OSA in the adult.
